Carbonated is a games studio founded in 2015 by industry veterans. We have built and run some of the biggest games in the world, at companies like EA, Sony, and Zynga. Some of the best partners in the world have backed us, including a16z, Bitkraft, and Com2Us.

We’re a small ambitious team, fortunate enough to be working on our dream game, MadWorld. We’re blending ideas from traditional and new gameplay, all in a real-time global multiplayer battler. Think if The Division had a baby with Eve Online, with a few fun twists!

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Lead UI Development Efforts for our Global Game: Work closely with Designers to define how our players all over the world experience MadWorld’s rich post-apocalyptic setting and multiple game systems; strategic map gameplay, third person shooter, clans, crafting and more.
  • Craft the Core Elder Game Interface - Territory War: Collaborate with the Designers to immerse and retain players in the long term arc of the game: fighting for their hometown and then grouping up with their friends and clan mates to take over their region, country or the world! From early missions delivered by the secretive Narrator to long-term strategic Clan War map play, you’ll help make fighting to control post-Collapse Earth’s 250,000 land hexes feel awesome.
  • Evolve the New AI Squadmate Command Mode: The Command Mode interface let’s players easily and intuitively dominate the battlefield with their AI Squadmates. Command mode provides a battlefield-level view, allowing players to use their AI Squadmates’ powerful abilities to win the fight.
  • Refine the Core Gameplay Interface: Continuously optimize the core UI for our real-time third-person multiplayer shooter, ensuring smooth controls and intuitive access to all combat features, including solo and coop PvE combat (+ future PVP modes).
  • Drive Metagame Systems Integration: Strategize and implement UI elements that integrate core metagame systems, such as player & AI squadmate progression, resource management, and crafting (from gear to structures). Ensure the UI makes complex systems easily understandable and engaging for players.
  • Experiment and Innovate: Tinker with and prototype new UI features, discover unplanned mechanics, and adjust existing elements to fit planned efforts.
  • Collaborate with All Departments: Work closely with Art, Engineering, Design, and Production teams to ensure the UI complements the visual style and enhances the gameplay experience.

WHAT'S REQUIRED

  • Expertise in C++ and LUA: You have an intrinsic knowledge of these languages and have demonstrated your ability to craft compelling systems and mechanics.
  • UI Skills: Experience with user interface codebases and systems, such as UI Toolkit for Unity or UMG for Unreal, ensuring engaging and intuitive interfaces.
  • Open to the Outside: History or willingness to work with open source game engines or tools.
  • Mobile Game Expertise: Familiarity with mobile game development on iOS or Android, its processes and requirements.
  • Market Insight: Knowledge of metagames in other mobile titles and how they drive player retention and monetization.
  • Passion for Games: Your passion and extensive playing across various genres fuel your creativity and inform your designs.

EXTRA CREDIT

  • Multiplayer Madness: A love for playing multiplayer shooters, regardless of the platform!
  • Territory Control: Understanding of territory based game design concepts employed on titles such as PlanetSide 2, Foxhole, or Civilization.
  • Agile/Scrum Development: Experience in Agile/Scrum development is a plus.
  • Hands-On Approach: You’re not afraid to roll up your sleeves and really dig in to make something awesome.
