See open jobs at Discord.See open jobs similar to "Sr. Policy Counsel" BITKRAFT Ventures.As Discord’s first Policy Counsel, you will be responsible for analyzing laws and regulations across the globe that impact our service, our users, and our business, and developing action plans to achieve compliance with these laws. You will report to the company’s Senior Director of Product & Privacy Law, who is the company leader responsible for our service complying with legal and regulatory requirements.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Identify new trends in the regulation of online communications services and educate company leadership on their implications for the company;
- Pro-actively assess our compliance risk across global legal requirements spanning domains including privacy, consumer protection, payments, online copyright, online safety, and telecommunications;
- Analyze proposed legislation and regulations, and provide our Public Policy team recommended changes based on the interests of our users and our company
- Manage successful execution of action plans implementing new legal requirements in coordination with our Product Counsel team;
- Advise our Platform Policy and Trust & Safety teams on their development and implementation of policies that apply to user activity and content on our platform;
- Participate as our Legal representative to industry coalitions looking to influence legislative and regulatory outcomes;
- Promote employee awareness and invite employee engagement on our policy positions; and
- Contribute to the our regular public communications on policy topics affecting us and our users.
You must have:
- Sustained (5+ years) professional success in the field of tech law and policy
- Experience drafting and/or analyzing legislation applicable to tech companies
- Develop and execute a multi-year, risk-based compliance strategy
- Commitment to Discord’s mission to be the place where everyone can find belonging
Special consideration will be given to candidates with:
- Work experience creating new legislation or regulations in domains such as online safety, content moderation, or privacy
- Direct experience with the policymaking process in the U.S. and/or E.U.
- Success building global compliance plans for a tech company faced with dynamic legal requirements across different jurisdictions
- J.D. or equivalent advanced degree in law from an accredited institution
- Fluency in languages other than English
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $153,000 to $255,500 + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role and level. Within the range, individual pay is determined by additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Please note that the compensation details listed in US role postings reflect the base salary only, and do not include equity, or benefits.
