Playable Worlds is a team of talented and creative game industry professionals working together on a sandbox MMO built for the cloud. All positions at Playable Worlds are currently remote. The salary range for this position is $70,000-$90,000 annually, & stock options.
Summary
This Technical Designer position is responsible for:
- Designing the technical implementation of gameplay systems, execute that implementation, and document it.
- Iterating on new and existing systems based on feedback from the team and players
- Coordinating with Engineering to ensure that design scripting efficiently meshes with other game systems and ensuring MMO-Level scalability of all systems
- Collaborating with the Art and Audio teams to determine the visual/auditory requirements of gameplay features and systems
The ideal candidate will have worked with these responsibilities on multiple other game projects, and ideally with games that have MMO-complexity and a similar set of systems.
Knowledge/Skill/Ability Requirements
- Experience level: Must have 7+ years of industry experience and have shipped 2 or more projects with MMO-like complexity of systems where they were a material systems contributor.
- Education level: Bachelors or greater. Computer science or gaming are useful.
- Must have extensive experience with at least 1-2 scripting languages. Knowledge of TypeScript is a requirement.
- Familiarity with Unity.
- Must be able to quickly learn new systems that were internally created and are specific to this project
- Ability to prioritize a variety of tasks in a manner that enables timely completion.
Bonus Points for Any of These
- You will often need to read source for the main game and familiarity with C# is a major plus.
- A passion for video games.
- Significant experience with competitive and cooperative multiplayer online games.
