Responsibilities

  • Design, block out, and finalize levels from initial layout to final polish, ensuring high-quality visuals and gameplay flow.
  • Collaborate closely with game designers to support gameplay and mission implementation needs.
  • Decorate levels with final art, maintaining a strong sense of color, composition, and storytelling.
  • Utilize Unreal Engine 5’s latest tools, including Nanite and Lumen, to achieve optimized performance and visual fidelity.
  • Optimize levels and environment assets to ensure smooth gameplay performance across various hardware configurations.
  • Implement effective lighting, utilizing color theory and composition principles to enhance player experience.
  • Leverage modular architecture kits for efficient, high-quality level construction.
  • Coordinate with Engineers and Technical Artists to solve complex technical challenges.
  • Utilize Procedural Content Generation (PCG) tools as needed for efficient level creation, as provided by our Technical Artists. Research, gather, and organize reference materials to create mood boards for environment design.
  • Ensure all assets adhere to PBR workflow standards, maintaining consistent quality
  • Document and plan larger tasks, maintaining clear communication with the team.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in environment art or level design, with at least one shipped title of AAA quality or a breakout indie hit.
  • Advanced proficiency with Unreal Engine 5, including experience with Nanite, Lumen, and the latest engine tools.
  • Proven experience in optimizing levels and assets for performance without sacrificing visual quality.
  • Strong understanding of lighting principles, composition, and color theory in game environments.
  • Proficiency in a 3D modeling package (advanced skills not required but beneficial).
  • Familiarity with modular architecture kits for efficient and consistent level design.
  • Understanding of PBR workflow, with the ability to audit assets for proper environment integration.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a remote environment, maintaining focus and productivity.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to resolving technical challenges.
  • Effective communication skills for collaborating with cross-disciplinary teams.
