Your Role

As a Senior Unreal Technical Artist, you will help bridge the gap between art and engineering, creating robust, scalable solutions that improve visual quality, production workflows, UI implementation, and in-game performance. You may work across areas such as materials, shaders, VFX, Niagara, UI, character and animation pipelines, procedural tools, optimization, and general content pipeline development. Working closely with engineers, artists, and designers, you’ll help shape our technical art workflows and ensure that high-quality visuals and interfaces blend seamlessly into our procedurally generated, AI-driven world.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and support technical art solutions across Unreal Engine 5, including materials, shaders, VFX, UI, procedural tools, character and animation pipelines, and content workflows.
  • Create high-quality real-time visual features and effects, which may include environmental effects, combat feedback, weather, water, destruction, UI feedback, animation-driven visuals, or interactive world elements.
  • Help build, improve, and maintain scalable art, UI, and content pipelines that allow artists and designers to work efficiently and consistently.
  • Work closely with artists, UI/UX designers, engineers, game designers, and other technical artists to improve visual quality, workflow reliability, usability, and in-game performance.
  • Implement procedural and dynamic systems that respond to the game world, such as weather impact, fire propagation, terrain interaction, material variation, UI state changes, or animation-driven effects.
  • Optimize visual systems, UI, and content for performance on high-end PCs and next-gen consoles.
  • Prototype new technical art features and integrate them into the game with a focus on scalability, maintainability, usability, and visual quality.
  • Enhance shaders, materials, particle systems, UI elements, and other visual systems to strengthen atmosphere, readability, feedback, and immersion.
  • Debug and troubleshoot technical art, rendering, UI, pipeline, and performance issues using Unreal Engine profiling and debugging tools.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and advancements in Unreal Engine, real-time rendering, procedural workflows, UI implementation, VFX, animation technology, and technical art pipelines.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience as a Technical Artist, VFX Artist, Rendering Artist, or similar role in real-time game development.
  • Strong working knowledge of Unreal Engine, ideally Unreal Engine 5, and experience integrating visual content into production-ready game projects.
  • Broad technical art skills across one or more areas such as materials, shaders, UI, VFX, Niagara, procedural tools, character pipelines, animation pipelines, optimization, or content workflows.
  • Good understanding of real-time rendering principles, performance constraints, and optimization techniques for games.
  • Experience creating or supporting scalable pipelines, tools, and workflows for artists, designers, or UI/UX teams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to debug visual, technical, pipeline, or performance-related issues.
  • Proficiency in scripting or technical implementation, such as Blueprints, Python, HLSL, C++, or similar, is a plus.
  • Experience with tools such as Houdini, Substance Designer, Blender, Maya, or other procedural/content creation tools is a plus.
  • Strong artistic sense with an eye for visual quality, readability, motion, timing, composition, and user feedback.
  • Ability to collaborate closely with artists, engineers, UI/UX designers and game designers
  • Ability to work onsite in Munich, Germany.
